The Prevention, Outreach and Education Department offers opportunities for our Peer Educators to get involved with the following POE initiatives:

  • Bystander Network workshops
  • Greeks Take the Lead
  • Spartans Against Violence Athlete workshops
  • It’s on Us Week of Action
  • Other trainings/events hosted by POE

Peer Educator Skill Areas

In addition to opportunities to train peers on the topics of sexual and relationship violence, Peer Educators gain skills and competencies throughout their time in the position. Specifically, the Peer Educator program is rooted in five competency areas that are illustrated below. Through training, experience and evaluations Peer Educators continue to enhance their skills in these competency areas.

We welcome all students passionate about ending gender-based violence to apply and become a Peer Educator. The Peer Educator application opens in December for the following academic year. Interviews take place before Spring Break and students are notified in March about their candidacy. New Peer Educators receive 32 hours of training with the POE department in August, prior to facilitating workshops. Peer Educators are trained in topics such as sexual and relationship violence 101, navigating difficult situations, identity and intersectionality, public speaking and more. Peer Educators are paid on an hourly basis at $12 per hour with a very flexible schedule, and are asked to facilitate at a minimum of five workshops in the Fall semester, but have the opportunity to work up to 29 hours per week.
